Guide
What to track when you brew coffee
You do not need thirty fields. Six are enough to repeat a good cup and fix a bad one.
The essentials
| Track | Why |
|---|---|
| Coffee and roast date | Beans change as they age, so compare cups from the same bag. |
| Dose and water | Gives you ratio and strength. |
| Grind setting | The setting you will change most. |
| Time | Shows whether the grind was too fast or too slow. |
| Taste | Sour, balanced or bitter, weak, right or strong: enough to choose the next change. |
Notebook or app
A notebook is free and quick. An app earns its place when it remembers each bag's recipe, converts settings between grinders, and suggests one change for the next cup.

Questions
What should I record for each cup?
The coffee, dose, water, grind setting, time and how it tasted. The roast date is useful too.
Do I need a coffee tracking app?
No. A notebook works. An app helps when you want it to remember the settings for each bag, convert them to another grinder, or suggest the next change.
Is Beanconqueror a good coffee app?
Beanconqueror is a free, open-source app with many brew parameters and Bluetooth scale support. It is a strong choice if you want detailed logging. CuppaData focuses on the first cups of a new bag instead.
